Colin Cannon is a critically acclaimed guitarist, composer and teacher. Based in New York City, Colin Cannon is a performer at the Blue Note and Rockwood Music Hall where he has shared bills with Ron Carter, Larry Carlton and Christian Scott. Cannon’s latest album, McGolrick, featuring members of yMusic, was ranked in the top 10 jazz albums of 2021. Described as “exciting and dramatically complex” (The Wire) McGolrick is both a concept album and film animated by Colin Cannon himself.

Ranked in the top 5 jazz albums of 2016 (AXS Magazine), Colin Cannon's Intermission (Farewell) incorporates more than 20 musicians, an array of soundscapes and a theme of audio samples from the 1950s. Intermission has been praised as "one of the most charismatic releases in recent years" (All About Jazz), and expands upon the audaciousness and reach that marked Colin Cannon's previous work.

Intermission premiered at the Blue Note in March of 2016 and has since been met with critical acclaim world wide.

Bio

Born and raised in Rochester, NY, Cannon was originally self-taught. His formal training began in his early teens with jazz guitarist Steve Greene. In High School, Cannon attended the Eastman School of Music where he was named the “Fred V. Alati Jazz Scholar" and at age 18 was selected by the Berklee College of Music's "World Scholarship Tour." Cannon received his bachelor’s in jazz guitar from Berklee, studying with guitarists Tim Miller and Mick Goodrick (teacher of Pat Metheny, John Scofield, Bill Frisell). In later years, he received his Master’s in composition studying with classical composers Suzanne Farrin and Shafer Mahoney. Since moving to NYC in 2010, Cannon has collaborated extensively with Manami Morita, Zak Croxall, Thomas Hartman, Devin Collins and Derek Van Wormer. More recently he has worked with Grammy award winning CJ Camerieri, Hideaki Aomori, Gabriel Cabezas and Rob Moose.
